Event Overview

Did you know that rearview mirrors, hand signals in baseball, and the football huddle were all inspired by the Deaf community? Join us for Reel-Impact, an engaging ReelAbilities Houston event exploring the lasting contributions of the Deaf community to technology, sports, and everyday life. This interactive session, led by M. Cody Francisco, a Deaf community leader and Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), will highlight the often-overlooked ways Deaf culture has shaped innovations that benefit everyone.

The event includes a screening of Deaf Giants, a short film that examines the historical role of Deaf athletes and the broader impact of Deaf culture. Before the film, Francisco will set the stage with powerful insights into how Deaf contributions—influencing such things as FaceTime, email, and car safetyfeatures—have affected modern society. A dynamic discussion and Q&A willfollow, inviting participants to reflect on the unseen ways Deaf culturecontinues to shape the hearing world.
